natural-gas-burner

Burning natural gas produces fewer emissions than burning petroleum or coal, but as any other burning it’s far from being green. Not talking about drilling the globe and disrupting wildlife by distributing pipelines.

Nevertheless, natural gas is still considered as the cleanest fossil fuel. That explains why every second  home heated by natural gas is considered much greener than those staying warm with electric or oil furnaces.

So should you invest in natural gas appliances? For sure, yes. Unless you switch to oil-free and grid-free living and run home on self-produced wind, solar, thermal and earth energy, natural gas will be the cleanest and greener solution.

Efficiency of appliances beats electric devices too.

Natural gas stoves vs. Electric – are  three times more efficient.

Natural gas dryers vs. Electric – are two times more efficient. (Though, why don’t switch to clothesline, your DIY solar clothes dryer, at particular season)

There is no doubt that the natural-gas-run ACs are existing and consuming twice less energy than electric. And the last but not least – gas-fired water heaters generally put less time and energy to heat more water.

LED and CFL

LEDs are the clear winner. Much less toxic than CFLs, plus:

  • Easy Installation Using Existing Socket
  • LED Operating Life: 100,000+ hrs (10+ years)
  • Solid-State, Fast Turn On, No Power Surge
  • High Shock / Vibration Resistant Major Power Savings
  • Voltages Available 12V DC,24V DC,110-130V AC,220-240V AC
  • Major Reduction in Heat Generation

Green Upgrade

  1. Change all incandescent bulbs at home to compact fluorescent (CFL)
  2. Setup programmable thermostat for heating/cooling
  3. Use timer for exterior house lights
  4. Exchange garden lights to ones with solar panels
  5. There are pros and cons to wire fan together with lights in the bathroom, but most elegant solution is put it on timer (30-45 minutes is sufficient enough)
  6. Exchange your holiday lights to LED strings
  7. Swap your desktop for laptop and get 2/3 energy consumption cut
