The halogen bulbs are more efficient than incandescent but still, they are consuming too much. Eight spotlights in living room, even 35w each, bring you to 280 watts of electricity draining.

The LCD replacement is expensive, ($29 CAD from Phillips) so, most optimal solution can be a CFL, looking from the point of triple constrain of the cost/light-output/energy. There are two options available, both at $9 dollars per bulb, from Canadian Tire for pair of 9-watt by NOMA and two from Lowe’s – 9w and 11w, for 35w and 50w replacements, respectively. Though, lack of ability to work with dimmers can be an issue.

Continuing to deal with big and fat energy suckers through the home, here was another one found – security flood lights with motion detector, at the back of the house. Here is how it was upgraded to get the tiny fraction of energy it used to consume before and still be operational enough to lit the path.
