Continuing to deal with big and fat energy suckers through the home, here was another one found – security flood lights with motion detector, at the back of the house. Here is how it was upgraded to get the tiny fraction of energy it used to consume before and still be operational enough to lit the path.

- Change all incandescent bulbs at home to compact fluorescent (CFL)
- Setup programmable thermostat for heating/cooling
- Use timer for exterior house lights
- Exchange garden lights to ones with solar panels
- There are pros and cons to wire fan together with lights in the bathroom, but most elegant solution is put it on timer (30-45 minutes is sufficient enough)
- Exchange your holiday lights to LED strings
- Swap your desktop for laptop and get 2/3 energy consumption cut
